What Are You Living For?

What are you living for?

You may think that this question has only two options:

Either you are living for yourself or you are living for God.

We all know that it is not so simple in real life. Motivations are mixed. Life is often a varied mix of raw selfish ambition and pure desire to live for God.

Is your life's inclination leaning toward living for God above all else?

This is where true life begins. It is a life of self-forgetfulness and Christ-centeredness lived simultaneously.

“… he died for all, that those who live might no longer live for themselves but for him who for their sake died and was raised.” 2 Corinthians 5:15

Is there a higher level of living than this?

In one way, the answer is clearly “no.” Living for God is living for all of who God is in his manifold perfections.

However, God also calls us to live more and more intentionally for his glory.

“…You were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.” 1 Corinthians 6:20

“… Whether you eat or drink, whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” 1 Corinthians 10:31

Living for God’s glory is a lifelong pursuit — for we know that indwelling sin will have us pursue vain self-centered glory. There is no greater and higher calling in one’s life than to pursue the glory of God.

There is, however, another level of pursuing the glory of God which is often neglected. God not only calls a person to glorify him but he also calls all peoples to give him all the glory.

“All the nations you have made shall come and worship before you, O Lord, and shall glorify your name.” Psalm 86:9

“All the ends of the earth shall remember and turn to the LORD, and all the families of the nations shall worship before you.” Psalm 22:27

“Who will not fear, O Lord, and glorify your name? For you alone are holy. All nations will come and worship you…” Revelation 15:4

God is on a global mission to call all peoples to his worship.

Living for God’s glory among the nations is living on mission with God. There is no other higher calling for every Christian than to live for his glory among the nations.
